Report on the Holaski/Love deep sea fishing trip in Punta Cana on Monday, October 12, 2009.

Hi Pedro,

I started my researching the internet and found out that fishing is best on the north and east side of the country and the majority of the big fish reports were coming out of Punta Cana. We choose this company (First Class Fishing) because they had an excellent and extensive website and they responded to my emails in less than 24 hours (usually in less than 2). I actually tried to go with another company at first but after having to yell into the phone and still not being heard on 3 separate calls and a bounced back email, I lost all confidence in the guy and went to First Class Fishing. Pedro, the owner, was very friendly, organized and speaks very good English so that you know he understands what you are saying.

Okay, onto the trip. I believe it could be summed up by "lots of vomit" and "big fish". We had a nice boat and figured it must have been a 32 footer. They told us that the waves were within the range of normal but we figured that they were up to 8-10 feet with the big wave. My mom had gone to a pharmacist who recommend a bottle of pills to that didn't need a prescription. My recommendation is to never trust a bottle of pills that cost $4.37 for 100 pills. We all got sick (not the crew of course), even my dad who had gone on a 3 day deep sea fishing trip an only puked once. Go to the doctor and get the real deal stuff or wait to you get to the DR and go to a farmacia here. The medicines here are reasonably cheap and you don't need prescriptions to get most things. Also, we took our pills maybe 30 minutes to an hour before we got into the boat and the crew said that it is better to take some the night before and then some more the morning of so that the medicine has time to absorb into your system.

We did the 4 hour private charter with myself, my husband, my mom and my dad. My husband was the first puker at about 45 minutes in. My mom and I ran to the back at the boat at about the same time 15 minutes later and that is when we got our first bite. While dad was reeling in the first fish we got our second bite. My husband tossed the camera to me so that he could reel in the fish. I tossed the camera to mom so that I could vomit some more. Then for the next 30 minutes or so she and I tossed the camera back and forth and took turns puking and taking photos until the fishing were in the boat.

The guys had caught a 35 and 45 pound female and male mahimahi. (The weight was only a guess by the crew, we didn't actually weigh them.) My mom and I praised God that the guys had each caught a huge fish that they could brag about and we then begged them if we could head back into shore. We apparently were on a hotspot so it was a sacrifice for the guys to come back in. I am ashamed to say that I was such a pansy and that couldn't handle HALF of 4 hour fishing trip. But because the guys were nice enough to come in when we wanted, mom and I can honestly say that we had a good time despite the vomiting. If the guys had forced us to stay out the full 4 hours...I don't think that we would be speaking terms with them. Ha.

I recommend using this company. Everyone was very nice, took good care of us and were very professional.
