Identifying features Upper body blue-grey, lower body silver with scattered dark blotches. Maximum weight 45 kg (100 Ib). Pointed head with underslung jaw that is no ionger chan upper jaw. Fiat razor-sharp teeth with longest teeth just under nose. Body long and elongated, wide veed. tail. No keel on body.
Expected temperature range 21°C-30°C (70°F-86°F).
Fishing methods Trolling natural baits—ballyhoo (balao;garfish), mulfet, trolling strip baits with or without plastic skirts or feather jigs, lures—spoons, minnows, feather jigs.
Deep trolling with lures and baits. Drifting or at anchor with chum. Casting with lures (shiny metal, poppers, minnows, and fluorescent green or pink surgical tube lures) and bait. Saltwater fly casting. Popular as an eating fish in some áreas, not caten in others partly because of concern for ciguatera.
